Domaine Chante cigale

The history started in 1874 when Hyppolite Jourdan choose to name the 28 hectares family property« Clos Chante Cigale ».

In 1936, Chateauneuf du Pape was declared the 1st AOC in France. At that time, Paul Jourdan was at the head of the family estate and he decided to rename it “Domaine Chante Cigale”

The Domaine Chante Cigale is today one of the most important family estates of Chateauneuf du Pape. Alexandre Favier, who took over the estate at 20 after his father died unexpectedly, is now carefully running the winery by keeping up with the winemaker’s tradition of the family.

The Estate now stretch over more than 40 hectares on the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation, divided into 45 parcels, scattered all over this exceptional terroir. The diversity of its soils and of the grape varieties allows the elaboration of unique and exceptional wines. Alexandre Favier and his team are taking good care of every step of the wines production themselves, respecting this way the spirit of the Domaine.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc

 

VARIETALS: 20% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc, 20% Bourboulenc, 20% Clairette, 10% Picpoul

VINE AGE: 45 years

SOIL: The estate is located in a very stony part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area, where you can find the famous "galets roulés" (rolled pebbles). A large part of the vineyard is on the famous plateau de Cabrières, near to Château Montredon. Rolled pebbles (limestone). Vines : 45 years old - 5 Ha (12 acres) for the white wine. G: Cordon Royat pruning.

VINIFICATION: Manual grape harvest with selective sorting. Direct pressing . Alcoholic fermentation in stainless-steel vats (70 %) and burgundy barrels (30%). No malolactic fermentation in order to maintain a good level of acidity.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge  

 

VARIETALS: Grenache 65%, Syrah 20%, Mourvèdre 10%, Cinsault 5%

VINEYARD: The estate is located in a very stony part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area, where you can find the famous “galets roulés”. A large part of the vineyard is located on the famous plateau de Cabrières, near Château Montredon. Rolled pebbles (limestone). Vines : 60 years old.

VINIFICATION: Manual grape harvest and grape selection. Maceration of 21 to 24 days. Aging regimen of 70% in stainless steel vats, 30% in young barrels

Méditerranée L'Apostrophe Rouge

VARIETAL: Grenache 70%, Cinsault, 20%, Syrah 10%

VINEYARD: The 4 hectare vineyard is based in Travaillan - about 15km from Chateauneuf du Pape. The age of the vines is 60 years old, and they are planted on clay/limestone soil.

VINIFICATION: Grapes are manually harvested. After destemming and crushing, there is a cold pre-fermentation maceration, following which there is a fermentation of 15 days in tank. The cap is punched and pumped over for 2 weeks. The wine rests on its lees for 8 months in stainless steel tank before being bottled.
