Mas de Colombel
Faugères is a relatively new appellation, founded in 1982, as a break-away from the much larger Coteaux de Languedoc when the unique quality of its wines was realized. Schist soils are largely the reason for the outstanding quality of the wines. The reds are mostly GSMs. For more than 5 generations, the Chabbert family has been passionate about viticulture and wine. From generation to generation, this desire to make good wine continues in an exceptional terroir where shale is omnipresent: AOP Faugères.
Today, Eric, Cyril and Cathy are at the head of the estate, 3 passionate people who care about every detail to get a perfect wine for them. Deeply attached to the earthly values, they perpetuate the winemaker tradition, always more concerned to improve the quality of their wines. The 39 parcels of the castle are scattered in the Mediterranean scrubland, on schistose hillsides or plots in contour lines. Small production and hand-crafting is the order of the day with this producer, who is largely seen as a rising-star of the area. Internationally the wine media seems to be agreed that his wines drink at twice to three times their price-point… and we completely agree.
Grapes: Syrah (25%), Grenache (30%), Mourvèdre (20%), Carignan (25%)
