Tenuta Terraviva is a fairly new estate located in the Hills of Tortoreto overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the province of Teramo in Abruzzo. Today the estate is headed by Pietro Topi, his wife Pina and their daughter Federica. The vineyards were planted in the early 1970’s by Pina’s father, who grew the grapes and sold them to the local cooperative, and in 2008 Pietro and Pina decided to take on the task of creating Tenuta Terraviva. This certified organic estate has 19 of its 22 hectares under vine, focuses on indigenous, traditional varietals such as Passerina, Pecorino, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, and Trebbiano d’Abruzzese. The vines are planted to Guyot and Pergola, which all overlook the blue Adriatic just a few kilometers below.
Winemaking: Organic and low intervention methods are used in both the vineyards and cellar. All grapes are hand harvested; fermentations are spontaneous with native yeasts. Soils are a mix of clay and limestone.
