Summary

Scrumpy Ewe Cider is an independently-run farm cidery that grows and ferments a variety of European, heirloom, and modern cider apples in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains of Schoharie County, New York. The orchards have been owned and worked by the same family since the early 19th century.

Scrumpy Ewe prides themselves on making minimal intervention cider from juice that is bright, clean, complex, tannic and acidic, pitched with a neutral yeast in stainless steel tanks at specific temperatures. They do so to showcase the true essence of the unique varietals they work with and grow with minimal intervention to the fruit and process. All their cider is unfiltered and nature does most of the work as its slow ferments in stainless steel barrels.

“Scrumpy” is a term for unfiltered, farmhouse cider used across the pond. “Ewe” refers to the horned female sheep that graze the cider orchards.
