Summary
The origins of Château Sainte-Marie date back several centuries. It was once held by the monks of the abbey of La Sauve Majeure, one of the oldest in France. In the past, the estate was devoted to the worship of the Virgin Mary, and served as a hospital or inn to pilgrims passing through on their way to Santiago de Compostela. As early as 1874, there are writings mentioning a production of 8 barrels in white and red, with the property's white wine served at the Abbey Mass. It was in 1936 that the Dupuch family moved to Château-Sainte Marie. For many years, the family maintained a mixed farming system, raising cows and cultivating vines. Little by ittle, the family focused fully on wine production. Today, Stéphane and Laurence Dupuch manage the estate with passion, determination, and with a particular attachment to the typicity of the terroirs.
Château Sainte-Marie is located in the middle of Entre-deux-Mers, between the Dordogne and Garonne rivers. The ideally oriented plots stretch across two hills with perfect exposure to the sun on some of the highest land in the Gironde département.
Old vines with controlled yields, including a plot of Sémillon and Merlot over 100 years old. The great diversity of the terroir at Château Sainte-Marie is an essential characteristic that can be found in the typicity, authenticity and expression of the wines.
The property began organic conversion in 2020 and was certified organic in 2024. HVE3- and Bee Friendly-certified.
