Summary

The history started in 1874 when Hyppolite Jourdan choose to name the 28 hectares family property« Clos Chante Cigale ». In 1936, Chateauneuf du Pape was declared the 1st AOC in France. At that time, Paul Jourdan was at the head of the family estate and he decided to rename it “Domaine Chante Cigale”

Alexandre Favre started his vintners’ training in Orange at the age of 15, receiving his diploma in 2001. As his father was battling with health problems in 2002, he took over the responsibility for the entire domaine at the tender age of 20. Today he still operates the entire estate himself.

The domaine has 40 hectares of red grapes and 5 hectares for white grapes and is just outside the center of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Chante Cigale is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s leading domaines for the production of white wine. The varieties of white grapes grow in the lieu-dits of Les Galimardes to the south and Palestor to the north. The estate's 45 different plots are scattered across the entire region. Many of them are located in the lieux-dits of Rayas and Pignan in its eastern sector, where the soil is mainly sandy, with some loamy spots.
