Summary

The Gauthier family has been making wine for several generations. Rene Gauthier created the Domaine de Colette in 1953 when he bought his first parcel of land, and decided to plant grape vines. Rene had also become a sharecropper of a farm that had been abandoned during World War I. It was a lot of hard work, and with the help of his wife, he replanted that vineyard site entirely. In addition to this, Rene Gauthier had the opportunity to buy other parcels, so by 1972 they had acquired a total of 8 hectares of vineyards. At this time they constructed a winery and built their home next to it, and a few years later their son, Jacky decided to become a winemaker and began enology studies.

While Jacky was in the school, his uncle (in 1980) offered him a sharecropping proposal which, at the tender age of 17, he accepted. By 1984 Jacky was able to buy his uncle’s vineyard and he was making wine from both his parent’s vines and his own. A decade later he combined the two and the newest version of Domaine de Colette was created. Today the domaine is run by Jacky and his wife Evelyne, and their son Pierre Alexandre. Domaine de Colette is now comprised of 14 hectares of vineyards, situated in their home Cru of Regnié and other parcels in Cru’s Morgan, Fleurie, and Moulin-à-Vent.
