Summary

The Côte Roannaise is a very secluded AOC located in the foothills of the Massif Central in the southern Loire Valley. In fact, it has more similarities with Beaujolais which lies 40km to the east compared to other Loire Valley regions.

Domaine des Pothiers is located in Villemontais, in the south part of the Cote Roannaise appellation. The Pothier family, has called this region home for centuries, and today it’s managed and run by 4th generation Romain Pothier. We met Romain several years ago in Montpellier, and then after at his domaine. Following him and the progression of the wines has been amazing.

Romain inherited the estate’s 5 Ha of vines in 2005 and has purchased various parcels in the AOC for the past several years. Today the estate has a total of 21 hectares and all farming has been converted to biodynamic principles for the past 10 years.
