Summary

The Domaine de l'R, was founded by Frédéric Sigonneau in 2007, and he has already become a rising star in Chinon. The Signneau family resides next door to Bernard Baudry, and Frédéric has been a friend of Mathieu, Bernard's son since grade school.

In 1997 Frédéric worked at Baudry for two years. From there he worked with Fabrice Gasnier, an organic (and now biodynamic) vigneron 4 km away. After finishing wine school in 2002, he then went to Spain where he worked at the notable Ribera de Duero producer Dominio de Atauta.

When he returned to France, he had an interlude of 2 years working in a conventional domaine before setting up Domaine de L’R in 2007.

The 'R' in Domaine de l'R comes from ‘Reviens-y’ ("Come back" to taste the wine again!). This name ties into his philosophy in the vineyards and cellar- to grow and produce wines as naturally as possible. Fred organically farms small vineyard plots in Chinon that he acquired from his family. It took him many years to bring back to life the conventionally farmed vines by using Biodynamic practices. His hand in the cellar is very light suing no to little SO2, only indigenous yeasts from the vies, with no filtering or fining.
