Summary
Artemis Karamolegos is one of the most dynamic winemakers on the volcanic island of Santorini. Preceded by his grandfather, who began making wine and cultivating vines as a hobby in the early 1950s, Artemis founded the modern-day winery in 2004. He owns just over 3ha of vineyards (some over 100 years old) across Pyrgos, Megalorchori, Exo Gonia, Akrotiri and Fira, and has long-term contracts to farm another 5 hectares.
Specializing in Assyrtiko, the winery is known for its range of wines expressing the mineral purity of Santorini's volcanic soils - a mix of basalt, granite, pumice, obsidian, and ash - with high levels of silica oxides and metals which make the soils acidic and well-suited to amplifying the uniqueness of the varietal.
