Summary
The Josetta Saffirio winery is located in Castelletto di Monforte d’Alba, facing southeast on a total of 5 hectares of vineyards planted mostly to Nebbiolo. The vineyards have been in the family for several generations, but in the mid-1970s, under Josetta's stewardship at the age of 23, she reshaped the winery's focus from selling grapes to estate bottling her family's wines.
Upon Josetta’s retirement in 1999, her daughter Sara took over the estate and under her leadership the winery has implemented solar power generation, reduction of CO2 emissions, and received organic certifications on all of its vineyards. In the cellar, the winemaking practice is natural: indigenous yeast ferments, minimal SO2, and no fining or filtration for the red wines.
