Weissburgunder

VARIETAL
Weissburgunder

NOTES
VINEYARD: The slopes and hills of the Wagram growing area. It owes its name to a long hilly ridgeline lying north of the Danube, ranging some 30km from Tulln to the eastern border of the Kamptal. The vines are deeply rooted in historic soil: where waves of the primeval ocean once met the shore, loess deposits several meters in depth now shape the detailed landscape. Mostly sun-exposed with extremely diverse soils: humus, gravel, loam, limestone and minerals.

VINIFICATION: Following the manual harvest, bunches are whole-cluster-pressed. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeast in old Acacia wood casks. Aged on the lees for 6 months prior to bottling.

TASTING NOTES: Judith Beck’s entry Weissburgunder has changed in the last couple of vintages and is now with a touch a skin contact making it a baby orange wine. It still has lovely fruit, freshness and drinkability but just with hint of savory, skin contact character.
