Summary

Located in the heart of Portugal’s picturesque Bairrada Region, Casa de Saima is one of the elite producers. Bairrada, with it’s clay soils and close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, is well known for producing wines from the famous red grape varietal Baga. Baga is used to make the region’s red and sparkling wines, and the region is also well known for it’s white wines- made primarily from the Maria Gomez and Bical grapes

Casa de Saima is a very old estate in Portugal’s Bairrada region and is owned and operated by Graça Miranda DeSilva. Saima farms 20 hectares of vines spread out among several tiny parcels - with some very old Baga holdings in the famous Vinha da Corga vineyard.  Graça’s husband produced a little bit of wine for consumption and minimal local sales, but he primarily sold his fruit to the Co-op.  When they split in the late 1980’s Graça decided to estate bottle all of her fruit.  She was one of the first women in Bairrada to do this. Sadly, Graca passed away early 2022. Her son Diogo Silva and son in law Paulo Cêpa are now continuing Graça’s work by to honoring the ancient winemaking methods of treading grapes in Lagares for open-fermenting with native yeasts (for reds) before ageing in 100 year old casks.
